Phil was an excellent all-round cricketer for NCC over many seasons. Took the new ball when he first joined the club, and his fierce competitive nature was perfect for the role. He was also a stubborn left-hand bat who could bat anywhere in the order, and in his later career became a very tidy wicketkeeper. He was for several latter years the ‘club plumber’, always on hand in case of leaks after a hard winter!

His best bowling for the club was a superb 8-28 against Beaulieu in the New Forest League in 1990, for which he was awarded the NCC best performance of that year.
