Pete was a traditional village cricketer. A stubborn, sometimes violent batsman, cunning slow medium bowler and a good pair of hands in the field. He played for NCC over several years and became what turned out to be their last Club President. He was made a life member following his sterling efforts in building the NCC pavilion, and a fundraising walk to Lord’s Cricket Ground.
Pete was as far as one can see the only NCC player ever to take eight wickets and score a half-century in the same game (8-19 and 50* vs Woodgreen in the New Forest League in 1986). This made headlines in the Western Gazette, which according to rumour, had sold out by 10 am on the day of print!
