Bramshaw Cricket Club

Founded in 1877, Bramshaw Cricket Club is located in the heart of the New Forest. In 2016, Bramshaw and Nomansland joined forces, preserving the tradition of cricket being played on Nomansland Green while building a stronger, more inclusive club for the local community.

Bramshaw enjoyed a particularly successful period during the 1990s, when the First XI raced up the leagues with a side of exceptional quality, establishing a strong reputation for competitive cricket that helped shape the club’s modern ambitions.

Today, Bramshaw CC is a friendly and competitive club, welcoming players of all abilities and experience levels. The Club fields three Saturday League teams, a midweek league team, and a Sunday side playing friendly fixtures, alongside hosting occasional touring teams. Our First XI compete in the Hampshire Cricket League Division 3, the Second XI in Division 5, and the Third XI in Division 6.

The Club has enjoyed success across all sections in recent seasons. The First XI gained promotion to County 1 in 2021 and achieved the highest finish in the Hampshire League pyramid in 2023, finishing 6th. The Second XI were promoted in 2022, the Midweek side won the Premier Division in 2021, and our junior teams were crowned league champions in 2025, with the Third XI providing a key pathway for junior players stepping into senior cricket.

We are proud to support players at every stage, with a growing junior section including a U15 side, and weekly adult training sessions open to both new and experienced players. Through continued investment in our facilities and playing surfaces, the Club is fortunate to play its cricket across two of the most scenic grounds in the county, helping to create an enjoyable and welcoming environment for players, members and visitors alike.

Nomansland Cricket Club

From the early days, the Cricket Club had been playing at Lyburn Park, by invitation of the owner, Mr R C Leigh, who had also supplied the teas. However, in 1925 they asked permission from the Forestry Commission to have a pitch on the Green. They received permission in time for the 1926 season for a payment of five shillings a year and any fence was “only to be temporary”. This pitch was probably unique in that it included parts of two roads, the boundary being the garden fences (i.e. the County Boundary). An extra duty of the umpire here was to check that no vehicles were coming before giving a nod to the bowler to bowl. Besides the traffic problem, a ‘six’ could break tiles on cottage roofs, Boundary Cottage was particularly vulnerable. (The then owner is reputed to have said “I don’t mind the tiles so much, it’s the fact they laugh”).

In later years the increase of road traffic delayed the bowler more and more often. So in 1973, the pitch was moved so that the nearest road now became the boundary and play could be continuous. However, cars still need to be aware of batsmen hitting a six. The Club were also permitted to build a small pavilion, which is situated between the trees, and indeed the new pitch still has 4 large trees (oaks and beeches) and the War Memorial inside the boundary. These differences are offset, at least for the spectators, by the magnificent view across the wooded Hampshire countryside to Dean Hill on the edge of the Hampshire Basin.
