Kaush finally gets runs in real real life as he and Symonds take us to match winning total before Bison and Coombs bulldoze the oppo top order

Match Report: Bramshaw 1XI VS Hythe 25/07/26 HCL DIV 3A

Bramshaw 1st XI Match Report

First game without our talisman this week. Tom Arnold got married on Wednesday, and then in an act of pure selfishness, his new cow of a wife whisked him off on a long honeymoon. So yeah, lost our best batter in the club by a mile. As skipper I had to reshuffle the batting order to compensate, with Ethan and Chandler drafted in for depth.

Small change to proceedings too. Ditched the dreaded triangle warm up in favour of hand hockey, and it went down a treat.

Lost the toss, and after a long consult with their players the opposition skipper chose to bowl. Fair enough, to be honest. Kev had left a decent amount of grass on the pitch. Although we’d of batted.

Joe Coombs and Jack Booth opened up. Jack nicked off second ball and was dropped, but never really looked comfortable after that, eventually falling for 5. Joe, meanwhile, smashed a huge six in the first over and looked lovely doing it.

Ben Chandler came in at three, caught at mid off cheaply for a duck. Early wobble. Zane D’Monte came in and he and Joe put on 50 for the third wicket to steady things, before Joe went for one big shot too many over cow corner and got bowled for 49. Rough shot to go out on.

From there it was a proper collapse. Zane (26), Michael Kingston (2) and Dylan Hatton (1) all fell in a hurry, and we slipped to 101 for 6.

Johnny came in and played some really useful shots on his way to 31 before getting bowled, a proper vintage Johnny knock. Kaush joined and started to build, and pushed on with Ollie until Ollie was given out LBW for 7, leaving us 148 for 8 with 15 overs still to bat. Ethan came in to join Kaush from there, and boy did we need it.

Kaush played beautifully but took one flush in the eyebrow at one point (getting bounced by a 14 year old bowling 42mph) and took his time to recover and then brought up a brilliant fifty. Kaush and Ethan saw out the remaining 15 overs unbeaten, Kaush finishing on 67 not out, Ethan not out on 17. The pair put on 94 getting the team total to a probably par 242 a match winning partnership

Massive shoutout to Ali for the tea today. And not just the tea, the ice pops, the watermelon, the drinks breaks too. Superb effort. Whoever’s on teas next game has a very high bar to clear.

Opened the bowling with Jack Booth and Joe Coombs, and what a spell it was. After the first 10 overs they had the opposition 49 for 4, our best opening burst of the season and exactly the platform we needed. Jack finished with 3-39 off 7 overs ,proving Tom in Barcelona very wrong, and Joe took 1-23 from 9, just superb. Their in-form number three, who’s scored five tons in a row, whacked one through cover, Jack put in a full-length diving one-hander at short cover and spilled it. Looked a tough take from where I was standing, whatever anyone else says.

Kaush then took a great catch to remove their other opener off Jack’s bowling, and Jack followed up by pinning their main scoring threat LBW on the back pad. Then the Bison swung one round their number fives legs and suddenly they were in trouble. It was our best ten overs of the season as they were 50-4.

Dyl came on after Jack but was a bit wayward, so brought Kaush on instead, who bowled well without luck, holding it tight through the middle. Zane took a nasty blow to the pork whistle before he’d even started his over, he rolled around for a while while Ali enjoyed the pain from the boundary but Zano got back up and bowled superbly regardless, tight throughout and finished with a really disciplined spell.

Their skipper and number four built things back up nicely, getting to around 115 for 4, until a mix-up on a misfield saw Chandler fire in a a terrific throw from long on to run out their number four. That put us back in the driving seat.

I came on to bowl and had a chance put down off my own bowling, backed myself to take it and spilled it, which cost a bit. Their number nine hit a few boundaries before I got him. Cue Johnny’s short-sleeved commentary from behind the stumps about the drop being costly, told him to pack it in and get himself a long-sleeve top for keeping next week. Finished with 3-20.

We wrapped things up with wickets shared round, winning by 52 runs as Dylan got the last 2 wickets one of which was an absolute seed with the stumps cartwheeling.

Great win, everyone contributing, and a great night on the bar after. Big one against Totton next week, need to put ourselves back in that promotion race.

Elsewhere: the 3rd XI picked up a good win, and the 2nd’s lost a tight one. But all had a great night at the club!
