TOM TONS UP DESPITE TRIM, COOMBS AND PATEL GET US TO MAMMOTH TOTAL, KINGSTON RIPS THROUGH HYTHE TOP ORDER
Match Report: Hythe & Dibden 1XI vs Bramshaw 1XI
Match Report written by Bailey Loveless
Bramshaw 1XI: Jack Booth, Joe Coombs, Tom Arnold (*+), Cameron Ridley, Johnny Murray, Kaush Patel, Luke Butson, Dylan Hatton, Will Ridley, Mike Kingston, Bailey Loveless
The day started at Kaush’s place for a pre match breakfast, where his girlfriend, who he’s made sure the entire world knows about, cooked up some lovely bacon rolls. The skipper, meanwhile, turned up sporting a horrific haircut courtesy of his soon to be bride (see below). It does make you question whether she actually likes him.

First Innings
Bramshaw won the toss and elected to bat, setting the stage for what turned out to be a dominant display with the willow, though not before the Ridleys turned up late after William overslept after playing paddle on Friday night.
Jack Booth and Joe Coombs opened the batting, and Joe continued his fine run of form from recent weeks, playing aggressively from the off. He had a bit of luck along the way with a few dropped catches, but he was absolutely whacking it. The pair put on 84 for the first wicket before Jack fell for 27, by which time Joe had already brought up his fifty.
Tom came to the crease and looked solid from the start. Joe kept going, smashing three sixes off one over before eventually departing for a superb 82 off 60 balls, with the score on 132. Cam Ridley came in and hit a four off his first ball, playing a pretty solid hand before being bowled by one of Hythe’s talented young spinners. Then Johnny Murray arrived, hit a six off his first ball, then got out three balls later. A classic Johnny Murray innings.
At 165 for 4 off around 24 to 25 overs, a bit of consolidation was needed. Tom brought up his fifty and then decided it was time to go through the gears. Kaush had a run a ball fifty, and Tom absolutely went for it, spraying boundaries everywhere on his way to a brilliant 121 not out off 96 balls, it must be said he did not take off his lid for the hundred as he was so embarrsed by his trim.
Final Score: 328 off 45 overs.
With no teas provided some of us grabbed ice creams before Mrs Murray dished out the half time oranges before we were back on to the park.
Second Innings
Will Ridley and Ginge opened the bowling, with Ginge bowling particularly well removing their opener and skipper at 3. Ridley wasn’t quite at his best with the ball, but still managed to pick up their dangerous number four. At 46 for 3 after around nine overs, the opposition were already well behind the rate.
Dylan and Luke came on and bowled in tandem, both unlucky not to pick up more wickets. Dylan finished with excellent figures of 2 for 14 off 7 overs, leaving the opposition 92 for 5 after about twenty overs, well adrift of the required run rate, needing eight to nine an over from there.
Kaush came on ahead of me, which was fair enough given I’d bowled absolute dross the last few weeks. He bowled really well and picked up a wicket, while I went wicketless. Their number eight was rather sold down the river with a run out.

With the result long since decided, a 70 run stand for the ninth wicket made things a bit tedious. Everyone just wanted the Hythe Starmopramen on tap. Ginge came back on and finished with 3-25 off 9 but couldn’t break the partnership. But Jack Booth stepped up at the death, picking up both remaining wickets to seal a maximum bowling points victory. Credit to their opening bat, though, who played a fine lone hand to finish on 108 not out. We were all a bit down after letting them get to 236 but in the end it is a maximum point victory.
Thanks to Teresa for scoring in the scorching heat see her marvelous work below:
Looking Ahead
A few sloppy moments in the field to tighten up, but it’s a big one next week, Totton at home. If we can keep stringing wins together, we’ll be right up there at the end of the season. And so will they.
Back at the Club
We had a great night back at Bram with Lockie on the grill and the burgers tasted nearly as good as he looked in his work trousers at the club on Thursday night. Beers and shots were flowing till late. Club social next sat, reverse iPod shuffle night. £10 for a drink, burger and song to be entered with £50 up for grabs.
