After last week’s performance, Bramshaw showed up ready, though with some questionable availability. Dylan was away at Middlesbrough, which was fair enough, and Sergio… well, Sergio was getting a tattoo. He did show up to watch from three o’clock, which was slightly annoying, but there we are. Thankfully, two of the club’s old boys, Gary Loveless and Jamie Martin, stepped up to help out when it mattered.

Bramshaw lost the toss and were asked to bowl. Lockie started up the hill and Joe went downhill, unfamiliar territory for him. Lockie bowled really well, while Joe got a bit of tap early on given his slower pace. He was hit for a lovely six over cover, but when the batter tried the same shot again off Joe, Jack was there to take a great catch on the boundary at cover to remove the opener.

Things were going okay in the opening period, but it was when Jamie Martin and Jack came on as first change that Bramshaw really got into it. Though Jamie had to be dragged away from watching the Saints game on his phone on the floor at point first.

Once focused, Jamie found some good pace and Gary took a stunning catch at gully to remove their number three, while Jack chipped in to get the skipper out, leaving Bashley wobbling at 97-5 from around 25 overs.

Jamie and Jack then came off and Ritesh and Bailey came on. Ritesh bowled accurately but Bashley built partnerships and their talented number five batted well for 47 before being removed when Joe and Jack returned.

Their wickets in hand allowed their number eight to really take the attack to Joe, smashing him for 39 off just 17 balls including 4 sixes. Joe did have the last laugh though, finishing with four wickets for 58, both of his final wickets coming via stumpings. A bit expensive bowling up the hill towards the end, but a fine effort overall. Bashley posted 221-8 from 45 overs.

Both sides were then treated to a lovely tea. Videos circulated of Kaush’s parents slaving away making sandwiches all morning, though Kaush himself apparently didn’t help out. A cracking spread nonetheless, and thanks to them for that.

On to the chase, and after some displeasure at the batting order, Joe opened the bat and Tom slotted in at number four. Joe went after the seamers from the off and he and Jack built a rapid partnership, with Bramshaw cruising to around 70 off 10 overs and flying.

Jack was then caught on the boundary going for a big shot at cow corner, dismissed for 24. Will Ridley came in at three with 120-odd still needed, a great opportunity. He was out LBW first ball. Ridley himself wasn’t convinced, but the umpire was, and frankly so was everyone else.

Tom then joined Joe and they made light work of the rest of the chase. Tom finished on a brilliant 58 not out at a strike rate of over 150, while Joe went on to reach his first ever first-team hundred, a stunning knock of 110 off 91 balls that included 11 fours and 8 sixes.

Bramshaw knocked off the runs with nearly 20 overs to spare, posting 222-2 from 25.3 overs for a commanding victory, the first win of the season. The only small frustration was missing out on maximum points by one, with Bashley’s last two wickets not falling in the first innings. But on a day like this, nobody’s complaining too much.

As for Sergio, sat in the stands with a fresh tattoo rather than playing, he’ll be wearing the pink vest this week.
