Bramshaw Indoor – Christmas Review
Mid-season indoor review by Bailey Loveless – All views are my own and not necessarily shared by the club.
The indoor season is well and truly up and running and in typical Bramshaw fashion not many members have an appetite for playing indoors including both the Shuffler and Kaushal (They must be saving room for Christmas Dinner!)
Chris has had the unenviable task of getting 6 players for each and we have just manged to achieve that feat for all of our 5 games so kudos to Mr Hewlins as well as to Keith and Steve for scoring in the heat of of a sweaty sports hall that has a similar scent to Tom Arnold’s WK inners.
We are currently in 6th place out of 9 with 2 wins and 3 defeats so it looks like a season of mid-table obscurity is on the horizon.
Tom Arnold has led the team on match day and despite not finding any form in the summer, he has hit 148 runs in 5 innings @74 . Hewlins is also averaging over 50 with the bat and Will Ridley has also found form 6 months later than needed.
Will leads the way in the wickets column with 6 wickets @14.67. Jamie “The aging” Martin close behind with 4 poles with others chipping in with a couple of wickets. Cam Ridley has done a tidy job with the gloves despite a number of leg side wides from Loveless and Martin.
On the Sunday just gone we had a nail biting victory over Southampton Community to win by 6 runs. We batted first and the Ridley twins opened up before Cam fell to a high looking LBW which brought TA to the crease who ran well and hit some bombs to retire on 25 in no time. Will eventually retired, having a defence that Zak Crawley can only wish for. Martin was runout for a typically unorthodox 21 and Loveless also run out for 1 after playing a Jacob Bethell esq cover drive that would have been four in outdoors. Arnold came back in to finish on 45* with Hewlins unbeaten on 11 as we ended on 125 off our 12 overs.
Jamie took the the first over with the hard plastic ball but along with Hewlins and Loveless the opposition raced to 60-0 off four overs. Well ahead of required run rate. Up step Will Ridley (4-32). Bowling some Liquorice all sorts. Ridley removed 3 in an over and another one in the next along with a LBW from Loveless to leave the oppo 70-5 and we could sense victory. However a lot of extras followed and the last man for them looked like he was going to see them home until he chipped a low full toss to the back wall and Arnold took a comfortable catch to gives us great win.
If you are interested in playing any indoor games in the New Year please let Chris, Tom or myself know. Winter training for the Junior will be starting at Embley Park in the New year and we are on the lookout for new players!
