Pavilion renamed as Stickland steps down as chairman, Hensel cleans up – Presentation recap

Presentation afternoon Saturday 14/09/24 written by Bailey Loveless

On a sunny afternoon at the club the presentation got underway after a junior/parents game was the last game of cricket played on the hallowed turf for 2024.

Arthur Stickland is stepping down as Chairman after over twenty years in the role. As Treasurer Phil Curl spoke at length about the various roles Arthur has done for this club over seven decades, from doing the scoreboard as a child in the 1950’s to being captain and Chairman. It’s often the work people don’t see Arthur do such as cleaning the pavillion every Sunday evening which is incredible. Simply put the man is a legend and embodies everything our club is about. The pavilion has been renamed after him (unveiled at presentation) which is the least he deserves, Thank you Arthur!

The U13s had a great year winning their respective league with team manager Andy Nicholls very proud of his sides efforts throughout the season. I’ve captained a lot of the U13s on a Sunday and it has been a pleasure, their enthusiasm and skill with bat and ball is incredible at such a young age and I look forward to seeing how they progress at the club! A huge thanks to Andy for managing, coaching and umpiring the U13s! Some other youthful impacts were felt in Sunday adult cricket with a George Burgess 50 to win us a game vs Hursley Park but performance of the year on Sundays went to Kaleb Stubbs for his classy 91 not out vs Dinton!

Tom Arnold got some runs on tour against some under 11 opposition to win the overall batting (720 runs).

Ollie Hensel won a lot of trophies (5 or maybe 6 in total from memory), from the duck award to the overall bowling award (48 wickets) a serious achievement at only 13 years old and it was good to see someone associated with Tottenham Hotspur to actually win a trophy!

Henry Glanfield won our border league batting (377 runs) and performance of the year (138* vs Whiteparish). Alfie Laughland won the bowling (9 wickets) as we got to the plate final and came runners up in the league.

Tom Mason gave the awards for the 3s in his final duties as captain before he steps down with Joe McNeilly (511 runs) winning the batting and Hensel & Chris Hewlins (17 wickets each) shared the bowling award. Chris also won the 3s performance of the year for his hattrick vs Ferndown! Thank you Tom for running the 3s so well for the last 5 years.

Zane spoke about his 2s with Ritesh (17 wickets) winning the bowling award and the old timer George Gray (296 runs) winning the batting. George along side Cam Ridley also won the club performance of the season for their incredible partnership at Steeple Langford to see the 2nd team to a cracking win. Cam also won the most improved player in the club which is very much deserved with fair few 50s for the 2s this season. Thank you Zane for the work you’ve put into the 2s this year.

The ones had abysmal year coming 17th out of 18 under Tom Arnold’s leadership. To show just how bad the season was results wise Kaush Patel won performance of the season for a catch, yes the catch was incredible but still it’s just a catch. Kingston took both the batting and bowling awards (321 runs & 15 wickets) as he had a stellar season, without him we would of been thrashed in every game. Hopefully Tom can get back to form next year and you can’t question his commitment sorting a team out every week, thanks Tom.

Alfie Moore (Captains award) Jack Booth (Most Sporting) and Tom Mason (Clubman of the year) won the 3 awards which simply put means you’re a class bloke.

I’ve missed some awards here but you know who you are, congratulations!

To the scorers Teresa, Jane and JB thank you for your time and effort. To Kev, Ben and JB all the work you do on the grounds is exceptional and hopefully you rest up ready for next season. Steve and Rachel Symonds have done an exceptional job in the bar as usual which provides crucial revenue for the club. Thank you to the Committee for all your hard work all year round making sure things get done!

Thank you to everyone for the season with a lot of good things to happen on the pitch when it wasn’t raining! A lot to build on in 2025!
