Kaush smashes Threes to opening win

Sway 4th XI v Bramshaw 3rd XI – HCL Division 6 SW, Match Report by Tom Mason

The Threes won their first game of the season at Pennington on Saturday, largely down to a sensational knock of 73 in just ten overs from Kaush Patel.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, we were in early trouble, slipping to 8-2.

Harry Burnham (32) and Ben Lindsay then got us back on track with a brilliant partnership of 82 to rebuild the innings.

However, once they both fell in quick succession, it sparked a collapse with five wickets falling in the space of just six overs, to leave the side reeling at 96-8 with just over 11 overs remaining.

Up steps Kaush Patel who hit it to all parts and shared a brilliant partnership of 84 with Ryan Dibben (1*) to get the side back on track.

Whilst Patel’s innings was the standout, it can’t be underestimated just how an important role that Dibben played in staying with Kaush and playing an important role for the team.

Once Patel was removed in the final over, Alfie Laughland (4*) hit a lovely four over extra cover to leave us well-placed at 184-9 at the halfway stage.

After tea, youngster Ollie Hensel (0-26) and Laughland (2-12) opened up and made a strong start to keep us well on top.

The pressure continued to be well contained by Joe Coombs (3-7) and Chris Hewlins (1-19) as the away side’s hopes were fading.

As the game drifted towards a conclusion and the home side had no interest in going for the target, run-getters Lindsay (0-5) and Patel (0-11) came on.

In the end, the home side reached 122-6 from their 40 overs, as we picked up a 21-point victory which looked a long way off at point.

A great way to start the season ahead of our return to Nomansland on Saturday when we host Suttoners 2s.
