The Club cricket year 2024 did not get off to…

Cricketing days for That’s Life and Bramshaw 1988
From the Daily Echo back in 1988, originally supplied by Ken Webb.
It was a tussle between old friends when the That’s Life cricket team met their annual adversaries at Bramshaw in the New Forest for a well-matched game.
There to greet her side with her famous smile was That’s Life matriarch Esther Rantzen – for within the village lies her country retreat.
She gamely played up to the Press, posing in front of the wicket with pads, cap and bat firmly in place.
But after that was over, she made it clear this was her day out with her children, Joshua, Emily and Rebecca.
Sitting on the grass in white trousers, raspberry pink tee-shirt and shoes kicked off, she and members of the
‘That’s Life programme shared a picnic with other village mums.
Surveying the idyllic setting of the Bramshaw cricket ground she said: “This is our favourite outing.”
The That’s Life team — which regularly plays cricket — are no strangers to Bramshaw. This was the fourth annual match and a special occasion for the New Forest club.
After 12 years hard work, the new pavilion was officially opened by club president, Mr. Anthony Crosthwaite-Eyre.
Playing in the That’s Life team were presenters Adrian Mills and Gavin Campbell, cartoonist Rod Jordan, programme editor John Morrell and director Robin Bextor.
In the end, it was a draw. Bramshaw captain Arthur Stickland thought the That’s Life team had improved – they lost their previous Forest matches.
Best scores of the day went to Kevin Marshall for Bramshaw with 87 and TV researcher Lynn Lewis with 43.
Bramshaw bowler Phil Curl took three for 22 and Gavin scored three, while Adrian was four not out.
