Match Report – Merlin easily beat Club XI

by Tom Mason

We lost the toss and were asked to field with eight of our eleven players being under the age of 18. Kaush and Josh shared the new ball Josh getting it to swing whilst Kaush was bamboozling the opposition with great variation. The first wicket then fell with Kaush picking it up and Josh doing the rest in the slips. After they both finished their tight spells it was me and Ram who came on and they later picked up a wicket. It did always look as If they would be on for a decent score especially so when Ritesh came on and the runs were getting leaked. Bailey bowled some tight overs before going for a few in his final overs. Towards the end, George J and Matt Rowlands bowled some overs with the latter picking up two vital wickets. Stu bowled the last over and only one run came off it but there were two clear LBW’s not given. In the end, they finished with a very competitive score.

Kaush and George opened up both scoring some quick runs before getting out. Stu was out not long after being given out LBW. Wickets continued to tumble with Josh next out. This meant that Ram and Ritesh were in and they in particular Ram looked very comfortable against the bowling and Ritesh was getting the odd run. Not long after Ritesh was out bringing Matt Rowlands in which turned out to be our best partnership with both on the offensive. Not long after Matt was out in the 20’s. I then came in and blocked a few overs out before playing another stupid shot to get out. This meant that Bailey was in and he was with Ram when he reached his 50 before getting out a few overs later. Last man Ian W was in and he and Bailey saw us to the end and the positive was that we didn’t get bowled out.

A great game to be involved in.
