Match Report – Bramshaw win touring game with just eight fielders

by Tom Mason

On another warm day, Bramshaw won the toss and we batted first with Johnny and Sam getting us off to a great start after just four overs we rushed along to 37-0. They continued to bat superbly before they both fell in quick succession which sparked the collapse. Ed and Tom batted together for a while before Ed C got out bowled. This meant that George joined Tom A at the wicket and it looked as if they were in no danger until Tom hit one straight up into the air and was out caught. I was in next and I never really seemed comfortable at the wicket and was soon out for just 1. This meant Matt was in and he wasn’t going to be batting carefully as he was playing his shots. Matt was then out for a quick 10. This meant Andy H and George were in and the latter was out a few overs later bringing the last man Joe C to the wicket the last partnership added a few runs before Joe was out for a duck meaning we set them a below-par 183 for victory.

Tom A and Joe C opened up and with Tom having to leave early he bowled a couple of overs and in that time he did manage to pick up a wicket. Not long after Joe picked up a wicket courtesy of a catch by me. I then came on and picked up a wicket and as wickets continued to fall at both ends victory would always be in sight. Matt then picked up some wickets well back by some tight bowling by George who also picked up a wicket meaning that we needed a couple of wickets with them needing 15 runs. Johnny then came on and bowled excellently picking up a wicket and with them needing four to win Johnny bowled an absolute jaffer which caught the edge of the no11 and victory was ours somehow.

A great win especially as we only had eight fielders for the majority of the innings.
