Match Report – Sixes galore as Club XI beat rioters in timed match

by Tom Mason

On a swelteringly hot day, a youthful Bramshaw lost the toss and was inevitably asked to field first. Josh A and Rich C opened up and quickly picked up a couple of wickets to get us off to an astonishing start. As it was a timed game everyone was going to get to bowl and with eight of the players being aged fewer than 20, it gave us a lot more chance in the field. As the innings progressed wickets and runs both continued to be scored and taken as Jonny, Ritesh, and Tom A began to get it on the act of wickets. With some great fielding, the runs were kept low and with it being a timed game we were out there for 2 ½ hours and having so many spinners it meant that we had bowled over 45 overs. Once everyone had bowled at least their three overs it was Tom A, Ben A and Richard who bowled towards the end keeping it tight and picking up some vital wickets. In the end the mustard up well in advance of 280 which was a more than competitive score. A great effort and it was good to see so many youngsters in particular doing so well.

After another excellent Bramshaw tea, it was Jonny and Dec M to open and they got us off to a superb start especially Jonny who was hitting the ball to all parts and was dominating the opening partnership with Dec before Dec himself got run out from a direct hit from the boundary. This meant that Ram came in and he was soon in and amongst the runs before he was out a few overs later. Soon after this wicket Jonny was also out for a superb 57 which gave a great platform for the middle order to come in and tea off. This brought Tom A and Richard C to the wicket and neither of them was going to waste much time as they both looked in great form before Richard was out bowled. This brought in me at no 6 and I hit a quick 8 including a six meaning that it was down to Josh and Tom to see us home just before the rain came. A superb win and a great all-round team performance.
