Match Report – 3rds pick up their 3rd away win of the season
3 August 2013 – Bramshaw 3rd XI v Wherwell
by Tom Mason
Batting first we were quickly reduced to 10-2 as George and Richard fell with them only managing 4 between them. Matt and Andy steadied everything up for a while before he was out for an extremely fluent 21. This brought Taylor to the crease and he played his natural way whilst Andy was just trying to see off the other end to keep us in the hunt of posting a competitive score. Andy was then out having but on a 50 stand with Taylor when he had a top edge that went to 3rd man bringing Nigel W to the wicket he scored a few before getting out binning debutant John Cooper to the crease and he scored his first runs before getting out bowled and then was the partnership which pretty much helped us win the match with Charlie and Taylor batting superbly and they were batting at such a quick rate with one over in particular leaking 19 runs. These two continued to bat well and we knew that if they had a 100+ partnership we would be setting them a total of well in access of 250. Cherwell tried lots of bowlers but it looked as if they were just going to toil on and on and so it proved that Charlie was into the 30’s and Taylor the 80’s. They were motoring along and Taylor dully scored his second hundred of the season and was being well supported by Charlie who was closing in on his 50 once Taylor had got out to one of the least likely sources a wicket from one of their youngsters. He was out for an another excellent innings of 101. Charlie then passed his maiden fifty and continued to bat well before getting bowled for a sublime 65. The last three wicks failed to last all that long but after this excellent partnership, we set them 259 to win from their 42 overs which was more than competitive.
After the best away tea of the season, Taylor and Charlie kept it extremely tight both picking up an opener each and then Taylor found another reducing them to 20-3 then myself and Richard came on after they both completed their 5 overs spells. I picked up a wicket in my first over bowled. Richard then picked up two wickets in two balls which all but ended their hopes badly once I picked up another quickly followed by another by Taylor they had one batsman left and I clean bowled him and they were skittles out for just 100 giving us a comprehensive win and great comeback by Taylor and Charlie both with bat and ball, especially after the way we started the match.
This was a great win as before the match they were only one place below us and if we’re winning like that to the team just below us the signs are good for the last three matches
A big well done to Taylor and Charlie for their (101 & 65) respectively.
