Tarty and Ben the key performers as Club XI beat Beaulieu!!!

7 July 2013 Club XI v Beaulieu

by Tom Mason

With 35 overs being agreed as it was such a hot day we battled with Boyd and Tarty opening up two completely different batsmen in the way they bat. Tarty started carefully but after the first few overs before playing Chris Gale like causing havoc whilst Boyd played more of a Jonathon Trott innings. These two continued to bat well up until drinks. A few overs after drinks Boyd got out for 33 and we were on 142. This brought in Clasby who hit a brisk 10. Joe then was out for 2. This brought in John before Tarty completed his century and retired. This meant Declan and John were hitting some lovely shots both of them before Declan was out and big-hitting Ben was hitting so excellent shots before John was out. This meant Ram was in and he hit some good shots before getting out caught in the last over with runs in the last few balls we ended on 231-6 from the 35 overs.

After a great tea Ram & Tom Wall were bowling with limited luck and they were below the rate with Julian batting well with his dad. They both had about 7 overs when I and Ritesh came on I managed to pick up the first wicket caught & bowled. I bowled not great apart from that ball. Ritesh then picked up the crucial wicket of Julian and then Ben came on and picked up 3 wickets in two overs which was a great chance by the skipper. Then Declan came on and bowled average with no wickets. Clasby then picked up his former teacher’s wicket which all but ended any hopes that they had of winning. John then came on bowling seam and picked up a wicket after their lower order and batted well. Tarty bowled a few overs to see us to the comfortable win. They had a colt aged about 14 who batted superbly well for them which kept them in the game and he had bowled well earlier in the match. In the end, they fell short by at least 30 runs which wrapped up a great win. Some great achievements today form Tarty for another hundred, Ben for 3 wickets in two overs before getting taken off and Ritesh for his first wicket in men’s cricket.

Next week is back at Bramshaw against Merlin with the normal start of 2pm.
