Bramshaw fall just short against Worcester Nomads

24 July 2013 Club XI v Worcester Nomads

by Tom Mason

On another glorious day, Tarty won the toss and elected to field first with Danny Agha and Tom Arnold opening the bowling up. Tom kept it very tight at his end but runs were being leaked at the other and they started off superbly before Tom picked up the first wicket LBW. Even though they had an early setback this didn’t stop them on their way to a mammoth score. After they both finished their spells it was mostly spin to the end with Agha S.N.R and Kaush bowling and Kaush kept his end tight and was soon in and amongst the wickets in fact picking up two with Agha S.N.R picking one up as well. Kaush completed his spell of six overs with two wickets and going at less than 6 and over while Agha S.N.R did also manage to pick up a wicket. When I came on they were 4 down and I tried to keep my end tight and managed to pick up a wicket with a solid catch from Tarty. T.Wall was on at the other end and runs were being leaked at a quick rate and he only lasted four overs before being replaced by Tarty who was unlucky not to pick up a wicket. I then finished my spell of 7-1-37. Then on came Josh and Danny to try to reduce the runs in the last few overs Danny did manage to pick up a wicket after a good catch from Kaush. In the end, they managed to get to 284.

After another excellent tea, we knew that we had to get off to an excellent start to chase down this formidable target. Matt A and Boyd opened up playing cautiously to start with before playing with more intent as their innings went on they both gradually sped up the speeds of their innings. They both continued to hit four all over the place before Matt was out meaning C.Spry was in he didn’t last that long before getting bowled and he was quickly followed by Boyd and the innings just needed some stability as the Arnold brothers were in and started off carefully before playing some more aggressive shots. Tom then got out caught at point bringing T.Wall to the crease who lasted a couple of overs including running a three with Josh A before he was out bringing Tarty to the wicket with Josh and they added lots of runs along the way both hitting fours and sixes getting us extremely close to our ambitious target and we knew that if these two were still in at the end that victory would be ours. Josh had batted so well before being out for 41 it seems that he always gets to the 40’s and then gets out. This brought in Agha S.N.R who lasted for a while before getting out leaving it to the lower order and firstly Kaush. He hit some very expansive shots before getting bowled meaning that I was in with Tarty with a fair few still required for victory.  I was just trying to give the strike to Tarty and did this with two singles. From the last over we required 24 and I was on strike I was in two minds on whether I should launch it to the boundary or get a single I tried to get a boundary and couldn’t get anything of the first three before getting caught on the fourth. Danny was in but didn’t face and Tarty dispatched the last ball for six finishing in the sixties and us being 18 short in a competitive match.

Sundays match is against Bournemouth Wanderers!!!
