Sunday team fall to defeat against Southampton Warriors

2 June 2013 Club XI v Soton Warriors

by Tom Mason

Batting first John W and Matt opened up both quickly getting off the mark and playing some excellent shots against their openers. We were cantering along at way above nine an over and it looked as if we were set for another big score. Both continued to bat well hitting boundaries all over the place before John was controversially with the ball just stopping for a while and then hitting the stumps and the bails came off meaning he was out for 38. This brought in Joe who started well with very few alarms. The run rate was quite a bit lower than it was at one point but we were still in a good position to post a good score. Soon after matt got out for an excellent 38 this brought in Andy just after drinks and so these two were just looking to build a platform for the last few overs. These two continued to play some very elegant shots and not long after the 20 partnership was up. Unfortunately not long after Joe got out. Thus brought in Phil to join Andy and these two batted well before Andy got out. againstwe had lost four wickets with all the batsmen reaching between 30-45 region. This brought Declan to the crease with only a few overs to go and so he was having a little bit of swing with Phil being able hold an end up . Shortly after Declan holed out to mid-on for 0. This brought in Tarty for the last 2-3 overs and him and Phil added lots of runs in the final few overs to set a competitive score of 204-5 from 40 overs.

After another great Tea, Tarty and T .wall opened up restricting the runs and in his 1st over Tom picked up a wicket off his last ball and he did so again in the next over which got us off to a useful start. Especially with them not getting many runs early on we were in the driving seat. Tom completed his eight overs in which he picked up two very useful wickets. Soon after they both finished their spells and I came on to try and break this big partnership that was materialising and I did so towards the start of my spell .Runs started to come more freely and so it was made difficult for my bowling to not get smashed , despite this I managed to pick up another wicket. They were getting particularly close to their target when D.mason came on for a bit variation but this didn’t quite work this time. After his spell was completed J. coombs and P .curl came on to try and pick up a wicket which they both did one form a good catch from Declan. With the required in to only single figures Bones came on to try to add to his two wickets which he picked up in the vko at the start of the season unfortunately this didn’t happen and they got home with 7 overs and four batsmen to go.
