Match Report – 3rds winning run comes to an end against Hungerford

29th June 2013 – Bramshaw 3rd XI v Hungerford

by Tom Mason

With Taylor and Andy away we knew that we would be up against it and we fielded first with Charlie and Phil opening up and keeping it tight. Charlie then picked up their opener meaning the score was 7-1. They both bowled well reducing the runs and they bowled up until the 10th over which was when me and Kaush came on to bowl with my very first ball to their opening batsmen Phil dropped it and this was something we were about to regret. I picked up the second wicket cleaning bowling their 3rd batsmen. Kaush bowled his first two overs for just three and then the next over went for 27. After I finished my lengthy spell of nine overs 1-39 Kevin Longman came on and Richard as well and at this point they were well set for a competitive score. Score. They continue to have big partnerships along the way and their opener kept on getting dropped. Towards the end, we did manage to pick up some more wickets to get a few bowling bonus points. Charlie and Phil bowled their last few overs with Charlie picking up another wicket lbw to finish with great figures of 10-1-22-2. In the end, they managed to accumulate 205-5 from their 42 overs and it was competitive especially as we were missing two of our key batsmen.

After a great tea Ben and Clasby opened up getting us off to a quick start. Clasby was out for a well-constructed 12. We knew that if Ben scored over 50 then we would have every chance but he didn’t and was out for a quick-fire 28. Rich then came in and out very quickly. This meant that A Cooper and N. Warren were looking to just keep the scoreboard ticking and preserve their wicket but unfortunately, Cooper was out after some good hits. This meant Mike was in and he played nicely before he was out. At this point, victory was some way off and so it was just about getting as many batting points as possible. This meant Charlie was in and he hit some good shots before getting out. Nigel’s tough resistance was then over meaning Kev was in with Phil looking to get some batting points but Phil didn’t last that long before getting out. Kev was soon the next to go meaning me and Kaush were still needing about 90 to win. After some big hits from myself including a six I was out lbw for 11. This means Kaush was left stranded on 15*. We fell just four runs short another batting point.

We should have Taylor and Andy back next week to bolster our batting and bowling!!!
