Match Report – Taylor smashes maiden century as 3rds hammer whitchurch to complete 1st win of the season
1 June 2013
by Tom Mason
We batted first on a glorious day with Andy and Josh A opening up both seeing off the first few overs before Josh got out bowled. This brought in George who lasted a few overs before he kicked it behind. This brought in Clasby who got the ball after hitting the four. This meant that Taylor came in and he was batting with Andy for quite a while and they were both batting extremely well recovering us from our shaky start. Andy was then out for a very good 37. This brought in Ben who started very well and was soon into the 130’s. Both batting attackingly but at the same time making sure they were still there. Taylor soon after reached his 3rd 50 this season in only his 4th match. Ben continued to bat well and we were progressing past 160 and Taylor was edging closer to a ton. They both continued to bat well and Ben then hit 3 consecutive sixes to get him past 50 and Taylor reached his maiden century soon after. With about 15 overs to go both of them started to go even more attacking than they already were and Taylor got to 120 and it seemed as if nothing could beat him. Not long after he was out for 130. This brought Rich C to the crease who started well and he and Ben had about 7 overs to go and they had over 60 in this time with Rich finishing on 27* and Ben 81*. We ended up on an excellent 308-5 off 42 overs.
After another good tea, Josh and Kaush opened the bowling keeping it tight with limited luck. They both continued for their 6-over spell without any wickets but they were still miles behind what they required. Then on came Taylor Vane and Tom Mason both trying to reduce the runs and I managed to pick up the first wicket bowling him. With them miles off and us just looking for more wickets for more bowling points on came Rich C who picked up a wicket in his soon over and then he picked up a couple more after that bowling very well with his spin. After Taylor finished Kaush came back on and picked up a wicket and he seems to get wickets every game he plays now. Then on came Matt C who picked up a wicket after a good catch from Richard. I had to leave a little early at this point and they were 80-7 when I left early and I was told that they were bowled out for 104.
A great win which can hopefully kick-start our season. A big well done to Taylor on his century and a good team performance.
