Sunday team destroy Sarisbury in run fest
Club Xl 26th May vs Sarisbury
by Tom Mason
On a glorious summer’s day, we fielded first with Johnny & Phil c opening the bowling and started well with limited luck until after about 10 overs when Johnny got one to the edge and Phil took the catch. After both having about 7 each on came Matt A and myself trying to pick up some quick wickets in my spell of 8 overs I managed to pick up 3 wickets and Matt managed to get one as well and we had them five down before Johnny got an excellent run out. After my spell which was useful of having quite a few overs as I was a bit rusty from the games that I had previously played in this season. After me and Matt had finished on came Declan and Stewie and Stewie picked up two quick wickets and they were both bowling well before they got nine down and on came Joe who tried to finish they’re innings as soon as possible and did so with his second ball. This meant that they set us an improbable 335 to win.
After another good tea, Matt A and Stewie opened up and started aggressively which was needed and runs started to become easier to come by they were both quickly into the twenties and even though it was still some way off but batting at a good enough rate to look on course. Over by over they both kept going both batting elegantly and both were soon into their 40’s. They both just continued and continued and suddenly both had their 50’s. With 6’s and 4’s going all over the place there was a good possibility that with the batsmen left that we could push for victory. As their bowlers toiled getting smashed to all parts they both had roughly the same score and were smashing their way into the 80’s and not long after Matt got to 100. Soon after he got out bowled on exactly 100. This brought in Johnny M who started as the other two were batting smashing it all over the place and he was soon into the twenties. Stewie kept going at the other end with very few alarms.
As the target edged to below 100, they both batted elegantly and it seemed as if we would pull off an unlikely victory at tea. Stewie then got passed 100 after an excellent inning. They both kept going and it was getting below 50 and as they tried their 8th bowler of the innings it looked as if we could pull off the win and as we edged closer and closer Johnny and Stewie kept on going both batting amazingly well and they both kept going right to the end to see us home on 337-1 after 37 overs This was an excellent win, especially against a team that fields 6 Saturday teams! A big well done to Matt, Stewie and Johnny on their excellent innings.
