Match Report – Under 13s edge past mudeford to reach cup quarters

30 May 2013 – Mudeford v Bramshaw  U13s

by Tom Mason

After winning the toss and electing to bat Matt R and Harry opened it up and Harry hit consecutive fours to take him to eight off the second over and it was 11-0 off 2 overs with Matt 0* and Harry 8*. Soon after Harry got out for 9. This brought in Nick Cooper who got out for a very rare duck. Then this brought in Declan looking to play with some intent and got out caught for a duck. Soon after Matt picked up his first runs and continued to play well. Not long after Lewis was out and this meant that JJ was in and Matt was out not long after for a very well-timed 12. At this point, we were looking at a very low par score and Hannah Curl came and got one before being out LBW. It was fair to say that we were heavily helped by the number of extras that they had. Then JJ stayed in for a while before getting out. This meant Ritesh and Rob were in and neither lasted that long it was down to the last pair Bailey and Ben c with the score 60-9 and looking as if it would be a tough day but these two both batted very well with lots of good shot selections and the way they were batting it didn’t look as if they were no 10 and 11 batsmen they continued to bat superbly and on the last ball we were all out for 106. Ben finished on 22 and Bailey on 6* we were of course helped by the 44 wides in 20 overs.

After a short break, Declan Mason and Bailey Loveless opened up the bowling keeping it tight for the first few overs and they were 5-0 after three overs. They continued to bowl well and soon after the first wicket came from Bailey. They were well behind the rate after 6 overs. Then there was some tight bowling for Nick & Rob and their batsmen started going for it a bit and were within 50 with about 6 or 7 overs to go and then some more wickets began to come with some good catches from the team. After a tight penultimate over from Declan. It left them needing 9 to win off Bailey’s last over and they failed to get any runs off the first 5 balls Meaning that they needed 7 to win and 6 to tie off the last ball and they didn’t so victory was ours.

A good effort and well done on getting through to the quarters of the cup!
