Match Report – Wilton v Bramshaw 3rds

Wilton v 3rd Xl 11 August 2012
by Nick Thorne

The eight of us batted first at Harnham Rec against Wilton after Phil won ANOTHER toss. We lost Harry early but this brought ‘shot-a-ball’ James Mason to the crease. He hit five 4s in his 24 but got out to the second-best ball of the day which pitched outside off and hit leg. 44-2 became 57-4 when we lost two in an over – Andy H for a cameo of 13 and Tom Mason for 0. Skip looked very steady at the other end but got bowled for 11 to leave us 5 down. Kev Gray batted well but when Tom Wall tried to sweep and got bowled we were 92-6. I went in and helped us get to a score of 122ao with KG on 27no.

After a very decent tea, we knew quick wickets were needed but alas too many four balls were served up to their very grateful openers. When Skip took our first wicket Wilton was on 60ish off 11ovs. This opened an end to exploit and when Skip C & Bd the other opener bowled their captain’s middle peg with the best ball of the day we scented victory. Phil picked up his fourth but it was too late. A combination of 4 spillages and a few hefty slogs took Wilton past our total.

We really need eleven next Saturday to have a chance of staying up and ironically if we had eleven today we would’ve won as they only had 9 players themselves!
