Match Report – U15s finish second in the Paultons ten over cricket tournament

4th June 2012 – Paultons u15 Tournament

by Tom Mason

We got there on a very cold Jubilee bank holiday Monday and Paultons and Calmore were already in battle – Calmore won their first game easily. Then it was us against Wellow which we thought would be our easiest match but this proved wrong with Wellow playing some good shots and there was also some tight bowling from Taylor, Charlie and Marky to peg them back and there was also some really good work behind the stumps with some good stumping’s and in the end, they scored 86. At the interval Bramshaw felt that they had a really good chance of winning but once the wickets started tumbling and Josh became stranded. Josh wasn’t supported on the batting front and in the end, Bramshaw fell well short. And so after the first round of the group stage, Wellow and Calmore both looked well placed for the competition. Straight after finishing their match against Wellow we had to play against Calmore and we batted first with some good contributions form Jamie, Josh, George, Taylor and Charlie and we scored a good 75. We thought that if we took a couple of early wickets we would have a good chance and this didn’t happen even though Calmore didn’t start at a very fast rate they were 36-0 off of 5 overs. After that, there was a wicket taken and once that happened they upped the rate and they eased to victory in the end after that it was a two-match rest for Bramshaw and a chance to try and work out away to plot a way past Paultons and they could have a chance of getting through.

The next match was Paultons v Wellow, Wellow scored a low par 66. Paultons fancied their chances and eased to victory. The next match was Calmore against Wellow and Calmore batted first and got a below-par for them 78. Wellow must have thought that they were in with a very good chance and looked in a strong position but then as they were going for it they lost four wickets in two overs all for runouts and in the end, Calmore won.

It was then our match against Paultons and going into the match we knew that if we could get a big win then we would have had a good chance of making the final. Bramshaw batted first and George and Josh retired and set us on our way to a good score of 78. Paultons who were using 5 Langley Manor players and two under-11s were never in the hunt even though they had a good start but some tight bowling from Josh, Taylor and me restricted them and in the end, we won the match. We then had the tense wait to see if we were in the final or not and in the end we were in the final because of the amount of runs we had scored.

It was then the third/fourth playoff between Wellow and Paultons and Wellow batted first and scored a good 70. After the interval, Paultons eased to victory in this 5-over match in which you had to retire at 10. And so we knew that Paultons finished first and then it was the match that everyone had been waiting for. We batted first and there were some good contributions from Josh, Jamie, Taylor, Charlie and Marky. We were on 68 before the last ball and I came in and hit it on the leg side and ran a risky third but Marky didn’t quite make it. In the end, we scored a good 70. Bramshaw started well bowling with Josh and Taylor restricting the runs. Then there were a few miss fields and they got to their target off of 8 overs. We got a second-place medal even though we only won one game out of 4 and Paultons won two out of four!

Well done to Josh, George, Jamie,Charlie, Taylor,Alex, Marky,Tom, Sam, Kaush
