Match Report – Wellow & Plaitford v Bramshaw 3rds

Wellow & Plaitford v 3rd Xl 30 June 2012
by Nick Thorne

A depleted 3rd team arrived at Wellow and Plaitford. After Skip won ANOTHER toss we chose to field. James and Skip bowled tightly up to drinks with debutant Declan Mason taking a great one-handed catch for Phil to leave W & P 65-1 off 21ovs. We took 2 more shortly after to leave them 83-3 off 26 including Phil taking the Catch of the Season so far – a wonderful diving one-handed catch. When their number 5 came in and got 70, with the opener also getting 50, we were looking down the barrel at 170-3.

Step up to the plate the aforementioned Declan Mason. In the space of 4 overs, this youngster grabbed 4-19, including a double wicket maiden. With the help of Kevin Gray (3-42) and a great steepling catch from Tom Mason we reduced them to 191ao!! A great performance of fantastic team spirit.

The sumptuous tea was of the highest order. On a personal note, I claimed 3 stumpings with 2 for Mason Jnr but it was a 6 ball 0 at the top of our innings that set the tone for us being 33-7 at drinks.

Although an entertaining knock of 35 from KG in a stand of 48 with Chris Plumley held them up, we succumbed to a young and enthusiastic Wellow bowling attack for 81.
