Match Report – Bramshaw 3rds v Steeple Langford

3rd Xl v Steeple Langford 26th May 2012
by Nick Thorne

Shocked by the death of teammate Dom Briggs, the 3rd XI were determined to put in a fitting performance to kickstart their season. After winning the toss Phil chose to field and after a very tight opening spell the opposition had reached 71 for 1 at 21ovs. After drinks wickets fell steadily. Steeple Langford ended on 175 for 9 off 42ovs. Phil grabbed 4-33 and Josh picked up 3-63. Very good contributions in the field came from the two Toms – Wall and Mason.

After the usual top Tea, we began the chase with a flurry of boundaries but crucial wickets fell as well. After 14ovs we were 81-3 with John Wall batting well. This continued until 104 when the returning Andy Hodder who also batted well was bowled. Next over JW was caught for 45 and I lost my wicket without troubling. 104-3 became 112-6. Phil along with the ubiquitous two Toms performed heroics to get us very close. When Phil was bowled and Hannah had been roughed up by a ball from their opening bowler we finished 166ao.

As a team we played well today but just couldn’t pull off the victory that the performance deserved.
