Match Report – Bramshaw 3rds v Great Durnford

3rd Xl v Great Durnford 25th May 2012
by Nick Thorne

Glorious sunshine, an orange match ball and a gentleman’s agreement at the toss met me when I finally arrived yesterday. We were asked to bat and made a bright start going past 50 for the loss of just 1 wicket but from then on we lost wickets frequently including top scorer John Wall for 31. Sam came in and hit a brisk 20-minute 28 before being run out. Skip and Ben helped post a final total of 159-9. Notable firsts in this innings were Richard Cooper’s first run for the 3rds and Hannah getting her first not-out.

We took to the field after a good tea as always at Landford knowing that early wickets were needed. It wasn’t to be. Myself and Skip were guilty of giving each opener a life before Ben finally made the breakthrough on 112. The other opener scored 100no including a 4 past Brian having a chat on the boundary! The bowlers did OK in the heat but it wasn’t going to be easy. Great Durnford won by nine wickets and our quest for our first win this season goes on. Hopefully, we will find it next Saturday vs Steeple Landford.
